Transport 2050

A 3D MicroCity Featuring a Rich History

TransLink, the public transit service of Metro Vancouver, is leading the development of a new Regional Transportation Strategy called Transport 2050. Translink had a booth at the PNE Fair in Vancouver in August 2019, which featured the past, present, and future of transportation with installations for the public to engage with, learn from, and contribute ideas. ‘MicroCity’ was developed by Donnelly Events with help from Creative Others. They had the idea to create a transparent 3D model of Metro Vancouver, which would be placed over a large kiosk made up of 9 LED panels.

Techniques Used: LED Content Production, 3D Animation
Client: Translink

Overview

Go2 Productions was brought on to help develop the animation that would be shown under the clear 3D model. The animation featured on the LED panels would light up the 3D model, creating a dynamic light show. The story showed the history of Vancouver over several different eras, showcasing how Metro Vancouver has vastly grown and developed. Accompanied by narration, lights, sound and music, this was a unique way for visitors to learn about the history behind the communities and the neighbourhoods in Vancouver.
