Canyon Lights

A whimsical storytelling experience

The Canyon Lights is a Winter Festival at Capilano Suspension Bridge, one of the top tourist destinations in BC. The suspension bridge, Treetops Adventure, Cliffwalk, the rainforest and canyon were all transformed into a magical world of festive lights and visual enchantment. For its 2019 run, the festival wanted to add to its existing night-time multimedia attractions and asked Go2 to create a family-friendly Projection Mapping experience celebrating the joy of winter and our rainforest. Our piece was called the “Spirit of the Rainforest’ and took viewers on a visual journey depicting how the Capilano bridge came to be.

Overview

Taking our audience on this magical rainforest journey through the past, present and future of the Canyon is Doug, an animated Fir tree. Doug regales the attendees with stories of life in the canyon accompanied by hauntingly beautiful holographic images of each forest element.  Together with the soundtrack, Doug and his woodland friends make for a stunning, emotionally engaging projection mapping experience. The animation was shown on a loop every night during the festival. Our team used custom Plexi-glass sheets with water-resistant vinyl coating and one ultra-short-throw projector to get the content to really stand out, thrilling adults and children alike.
