Sunshine Coast Health Centre is a fully licensed residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program that includes addiction counselling, education, therapies for the mind, body, spirit, exercise, nutrition, and off site recreation.
SCHC asked us to concept a series of 15 second TV Commercials and a combined 30 second TV Commercial, that would bring awareness to their services on alcohol addiction.
During our research we found that a large percentage of people living with partners addicted to alcohol actually live in denial of the problem also, until it becomes too much for them and they too either breakdown, take action or receive intervention.
Although a majority of alcoholics attending SCHC are cases of intervention, there is also a substantial percentage that are self admitted, our client wanted us to keep this in mind when we created the spots.
In order to reach as many people as possible with the concept, we decided to not focus so much on the addict, instead we focussed on the spouse, in this case a thirty something wife and how alcoholism can be a problem not only for the addict, but for the whole family. We decided to call the concept Living in Denial.
In this concept we see two old friends, Sally and Julie, meeting in a coffee shop catching up on what has been going on in their lives over the past year or so. We join them mid conversation shortly after they sat down. Sally asks how Julie and her husband are getting on, with a knowing but hopeful look on her face.
Julie, who is used to making excuses for her husbands situation and behavior, answers in a nervous and uncomfortable manner, shifting in her seat and darting her eyes says Oh, You know, we are always doing things as a family.
The edit then cuts quickly to a colder scene of the memory that Julie actually has in mind. Hence, Living in Denial.
The spot continues through a few scenarios of this nature until we finally see Julie breakdown to her friend and admit the reality that she is only covering for her husband and that he really needs professional help.
Powerful acting, atmospheric sound effects, intense visual effects and strong colour grading, really make the scenes feel cold and harsh, portraying the emotions and seriousness of the situation we were trying to convey.
The whole spot was shot entirely in our green screen studio, all the background plates, cafe, living room, kitchen etc are 3D elements, designed and built in Cinema 4D using global illumination and VRay. We composited the scenes and produced the visual effects and colour grading using After Effects.
If you would like to know how we did the spot, you can see the breakdown of every scene on our blog

With its warp technology CETATEK introduces the worlds first water adapting responsive propulsion system for fins. The warp1 uses patent pending technology that spreads and cups the fin blade in response to increased load on actuator joints when the diver kicks harder. This sophisticated design allows the fin to be flexible and maneuverable at low thrust and become increasingly more powerful when more propulsion is needed. The forced adapting dynamic spreading of the actuators and central membrane increase the surface area of the fin, capturing and accelerating more undisturbed water for most efficient propulsion. The forced dynamic cupping design allows for relatively low profile side rails while still minimizing side spill. This makes the warp1 not only an excellent fin for straight line flutter kicks, but also a top performer for frog and scull style kicking as well.
The best way to illustrate all of this in a video is of course through 3D animation. CETATEK came to us wanting a video that clearly showed all of this in way that would be successful in attracting attention in a trade show environment. After a couple of weeks modelling and rigging the fin in 3D, we started realizing we would be more successful in showing how it really worked if we could actually showed bubbles moving over the surface of the fin, to show how all the power is forced down the fin and not lost from side spillage. Using some custom designed Cinema 4D dynamics, we were able to create bubble particles that interacted with the surface of the fin membrane as it flexed and expanded, flowing over the surface of the fin as we required.
Over all this is a great example of how we can use 3D animation to help explain very complex processes.

Points Phone Guard is a service that prevents your mobile device from being hacked. Our client wanted to create a commercial that conveyed this in a humorous scenario. To begin this we created the PPG character, a mobile phone with a life of its own.
Extensive pre-visualisation was the key to this spot for Points Phone Guard. With a nod to The Matrix, the special agent character was filmed in our green screen studio in six separate poses at various distances to camera, then composited together to appear as if the poses were in the same space. The three backgrounds were made up of elements from different photographs, brought into Photoshop for additional clean-up. Camera shake was tracked from live-action handheld footage onto the scenes. The 3D phone was modelled in Cinema 4D by lead artist Joe Surachet with eye movements controlled in After Effects. Final passes for lighting details, 2D shadows, motion blur and colour correction helped seal the illusion.
Oh by the way, the guy that gets tackled in the super market scene is actually our creative director Adrian Scott.
A complete breakdown of how we made this commercial is available in our blog.

Pure Energy Club is proud to release their signature energy drink, Pure. Pure contains vitamins A, B and E along with minerals, antioxidants of every kind, supplements to boost your immune system staving off sickness and disease as well as ingredients that increase focus and concentration. Pure is even so low in sugar that a diabetic is safe drinking it. It contains the natural benefits of the exotic Acai Berry, Pomegranate, Chokeberry and Blueberry. It is said that the energy drink industry will reach $15 billion by 2012, and that is likely just the beginning.
Pure Energy Global required a 30 second spot launching their signature energy drink in an impressive, high impact manner. We decided to use Einsteins theory of relativity as a base for the commercials concept. This helped us develop the script for the voice over, once we had that, we had a clear idea of how the cinematic intro animation was going to evolve. The music bed and sound fx came together very quickly and before long we had a locked and approved audio track.
While the particles and energy trails were being developed in After Effects, the robot hand and drink can were having rigging and texture work applied to them in Cinema 4D. When the animation of the hand scene was complete, we rendered out two versions, one to be shown before the impact and one for after the impact when the energy is being transferred in to the hand.
As always with this kind of project, we added a healthy dose of camera shake, sparks, particles and smoke effects to really emphasize the energy and impact throughout the spot.

Here are some of the latest videos we recently created for our friends over at Recon Instruments. The latest version of their heads up display - HUD - technology now comes in the form of a MOD unit that can fit into specially created goggles now available from many pro brands that they have partnered with.
The new MOD system has much more functionality than it had before, including many jump measurements such as height, distance and drop, text and incoming call, music and location services, so Recon wanted to show these in a series of short ads that they could blast out into the social network. The spots were designed to be very high impact and fun.
Here are a few of our favourites combined into one video.
